SHANNON PETRELLO
MARCH 24 - 25 - SLIDE LECTURE - 7 PM - DEAN'S CONFERENCE ROOM - COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING
The Department of Cinema and Photography at Southern Illinois University is pleased to announce the visit of Shannon Petrello, the next artist in the Visiting Artist and Critic Series. She will present her artwork, talk about her Digital Storytelling project and discuss post-grad school career options in the non-profit art world. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Shannon Petrello is an artist and arts educator. An alumnus of the SIU Department of Cinema and Photography, she now lives and works in Oakland, California, where she directs a community arts program and is initiating an intergenerational Digital Storytelling project. In her multimedia work, Ms. Petrello explores both the commodification of romantic love through consumer culture images of women and the transformation of war into a game, as marketed to men. Her artwork asks how gender roles perpetuate the ongoing narrative of war in our society and if male and female iconic images are designed to interact on a battleground. Her artwork has been shown nationally and abroad.
